Almost done collaging...

... I think.  I just have to clear the decks so I can paint.

Have still a few in progress that might, or might not, be completed but in my desperation I have actually done a VERY minimalist collage that even I thought was inspired.  It began with a simple gestural brush stroke on watercolour paper.  I cut the stroke into 3 pieces and chose two of them for this....

TAKE A BOW
The 'dotty' pieces are enamelled glass, fired in my kiln (some bits left over from previous ceramic/glass sculptures).

At present I am enchanted with the simplicity (as one who tends to overwork stuff), and probably wont part with it for a while. That is, until I am able to simplify on demand.

I mean compare it with this...

RUST
...too much going on here, by comparison.

What do you think?

  1. theres alot going on but in a minimalist room or simplistic room it would be the star.I love to have cream walls and have one beauty on them such as this,my walls ar covered with my art since moving to this apartment from the house, all except the bedroom , I keep it simple in there and I like one main peice to just shine, this to me is a shiner!!

  4. I love them both! The brushstroke in pieces is so lovely and original. The second one has a richness and complexity that makes it hard to look away.

  5. I think they are both fantastic! I don't think there is too much going on in the second one at all. I really like the simplicity of the first one, but the second piece holds my attention much longer. Fabulous both in their own way! :)

  6. Hi Jo. How did I miss following your blog? Well, I fixed that tonight and am now your newest follower.
Your top minimalist collage reminds me of Japan, while the one below reminds me of Australia. Both are full of excitement and feeling. Come over and see what I've been up to!

  9. You have such a wonderful way of arranging things in a very expressive way.

Colors, lines, textures, and paint are participants in a wild dance.

  10. You was so busy since my last visit! Another great collection, Jo! I always try to pick out my favorite, but you make it very difficult, they're all so interesting. Your collages RU1 and the with open arms are the winners this time:)

    Cheers,
    Gaby

  11. Jo - both are just stunning - I LOVE the simplicity of the first one and the addition of the glass is genius. I'd hold onto it too! But, I have to say, I love the second one as well and don't find it too much at all. The colors and textures just draw me in and I can just study and study it. Both gorgeous in their own way.
