Where have I been...you ask?

Well I've been up to my ears in online workshops.  Doing TWO at once. Perhaps I'm a little manic.

My first was with Carla Sonheim.  Fun, fun, fun.  I was drawing 'Imaginary Creatures'.

We began by doing contour drawings of 'real' animals, to get into the swing of it...

Then on to turning watercolour 'blobs' into critters.

Here are some of my results:

My next workshop, more serious, was a 'back to basics' collage workshop with Laura Lein-Svencner.

We went through the various aspects such as Line, Texture, Emphasis.  Some of my results (remember, they are 'exercises') were quite interesting.

It made me really think about where each piece went in the various exercises.  Let's hope I remember when I'm getting serious.

By the way.....we were restricted (mostly) to using magazines for images.  I think I'm now hooked on Fashion mags....they have such dramatic photos.

  4. You shared about your Carla workshop earlier and it looks like you just had a delightful time. I love the fun of her style. The collage workshop looks amazing (judging from your results!) I'm hoping to be in the position to take a class or two soon - I love seeing your results.....learning is fun, but so is being able to put the lessons into practice - can't wait to see where it leads you!

  6. I like the watercolor imaginary animals, Jo, but I think you're really on to something with these collage exercises - some of these compositions are fantastic! I just started doing small collage "sketches" myself, either using magazines or whatever is on my table... the restriction actually helps you think in new ways, I think. Bravo to you for doing these workshops and expanding your artistic imagination!

  9. You made me envious with your Carla Sonheim class - I´ve also read two of her books and love her style as well as her way of teaching that I´ve seen in her videos ... your efforts look great (and your cats much better than mine ;-))

  12. Oh Jo, these are wonderful works. Manic maybe, but you are learning a LOT, I can tell. Your art always inspires me whether you're putting a show together, or making art for fun.

I've had computer problems, so that's my excuse. But I should have been here sooner, because I always love what you make. And magazine images are my life blood. Without them, I'd not be able to make much, since I can't draw, even though I've tried. So that last workshop you showed really piques my interest.

  13. Fashion magazines are the best source, I raid my daughter's on a regular basis!
The grey cells get a good workout while doing workshops. Such a treat to do them.
