On the easel at the moment is this painting -
Where's it going?...at the moment I haven't a clue, but I'm thinking about it.
Here's what my painting trolley looks like most of the time. I do clean up, but that doesn't last long. Almost every moment in the studio I need a new colour, or to find some tip in a book (or just inspiration).
Occasionally I retreat backwards to an older style, often just to work out a problem.....

I am the same way. If I try and retreat, it goes no where. Always needing to move forward with the work.
ReplyDeleteAs I look at the WIP painting, I find myself drawn into searching out all the little details - of which there are many - and enjoying the vibrant riot of color. My paint/collage table often looks exactly like that! When it's clean, it's only so I can make room to make a new mess.....I love this look of an artist in the throes of creating!
ReplyDeleteI think you are always moving in fabulous directions Jo and I can't wait to see what you do with your WIP- I'm loving it already!
ReplyDeleteLove your mess, I can't work in any other way. I love the big dark swirl on the red.
ReplyDeleteLove your chaos - I am looking for a space to make a similar mess - where nobody has the right to complain!! It is a sure sign you are on the right track - love both the works - your older style challenges me as I am not sure I have left 'representation behind' and I think perhaps it is time - and your new style is so stimulating - LOVE the red - I love your current explorations - keep it going yah!! Will love to see the result!!
ReplyDeleteYou and your creative energy are a beautiful thing Jo!
ReplyDeleteWhat some might call a 'mess' I call creative chaos and that is a good thing...
just look what keeps coming out of it all for you = Brilliant!
Happy Weekend to ya

Love the vibrancy of what's on your easel Jo . . . so much energy!
ReplyDeleteLove your creative mess. Mine is very similar. The only thing that might be different is that the floor is a mess too. Whenever I clean up the floor, I end up searching the wastebasket for that little piece of scrap that I need and then, that causes another mess. Do love your work above. Keep up the "good Mess". Hugs. Beth
ReplyDeleteOh intriguing new piece, so graphic. Loving all that red. And quite marvelous jellies too. xox
ReplyDeleteOh Jo, that gremlin really gets around .... grin...my workspace doesn't stay clean for very long. I think a creative artist needs a well controlled chaos :))
ReplyDeleteI am looking for inspiration on abstract art, so you have given me a very good inspiration piece in the first photo above. I like the way to describe how you make your paintings, and I adore the last one you show.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late getting here. I've been offline for several days.
I say, don't make another mark! I think it is where it needs to be, but you are the ultimate judge. I think the fact that you photographed it at this point says you have a sense of completion. When it starts to sing, just let it. I would hate to see this piece overworked.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gaby, it does get around... but good on you for working thru it... those leaps always happen when I give up and just... play... grin
