A Little Whimsy

Every so often I feel the urge to paint something frivolous.  I have no pre-conceived idea, it usually just happens.  Such as this....

HOP ON THE BIRD BUS - acrylics and collage

Birds are always favourite subject ...

TWO KOOKAS - acrylics

...and then there is abstract....

PATCH - mixed media/ collage
The 'patch' is rust-dyed cotton, badly hand-sewn.

The nuns who taught me to sew would not be happy...after all those hand-rolled hems and embroidered hankies!

  5. I had to laugh at the Bird Bus, because it was both clever and fun. But I fell in LOVE with the abstract. It's such a wonderful piece. And in my opinion, if your stitches had been precise and exact, they would have taken away from the controlled chaos of the work. There's a time for exactness and a time for wonky. This was definitely a time for wonky!

  6. I forgot to tell you how much I like your postage people. I've done a few of these, but none are as wonderful as yours. Each is very different, yet cohesive.

  7. Everything you create is such a delight Jo!
Thank you for making me smile on this rainy Thursday here in Virginia.
Your nun comment made me think of my mom growing up in Germany and being left handed which was NOT allowed. The nuns smacked her knuckles so many times. She started a white shirt for her brother's first communion and did not finish it until his confirmation LOL. That said she was an expert seamstress once she was able to do it her way.
    Sorry got chatty

  8. The stitching is perfect for the piece. I love the added texture and interest it adds to the mixed media piece. I have been hoarding a piece of rusted fabric you sent me, probably a couple years ago now, and I just might have to let go of it and incorporate it into a piece. Since my 2nd Jane class ended I've been creatively spent and just couldn't dredge the energy to work. I'm feeling that's coming to an end. I think returning to collage/mixed media is the way to go - I love working in collage but the whole beginning of this year have been focused on the paintings with Jane. It might be time to mix it up and return to collage........art is calling to me again.
