A Change Of Style

...temporarily.  This painting began its life as an orange and black abstract work.  Somehow, during the process, it took on a life of its own.  For some obscure reason this person, with such a fierce 'It's Mine!' look on its face emerged.

I hadn't the heart to deny his presence.  I guess he's here to stay.  However, I will have to alter the hand...looks more like a claw.

Better!......

  3. Isn't it fascinating how you start out with an idea and head in a direction and then somewhere along the line the piece becomes something else! It looks like you did some palette knife painting - love that thick looking texture!

  5. I love where you go with your art Jo - you are never afraid to let the moment roll!!! Not sure who or what inspired this one - but he looks very satisfied with himself!! Cheers!!

  6. it's fun to go with something that is appearing despite what may have been "planned". He certainly does look like he's saying "ha ha! it's mine!"

  8. Although I'm not really a painter, or make abstracts, I often fight my own pieces. They end up taking on a life of their own. I've had to learn to live with it. Yours is fantastic, and I think he's happy you decided to let him stay.

Sorry I haven't been around. I have missed so much. I love, love, love "Brainwaves." It is my kind of art. It deserves to be on permanent view, so the rest of the world can enjoy it, too.

As for your piece below, I liked both versions. I can see where you might think the first incarnation may have seemed too busy, but I personally think it makes a good argument for working in a series.

BTW, you said you would check on alcohol and ink. Here are a couple of posts that give far more detail than what I showed in my latest post:

Although it isn't rocket science, it deserves a better explanation than I gave.
