COLLAGE SKETCHES

These are part of my work done for Laura Lein-Svencner's workshop.  Small sketches are as important in collage as in drawing.  It gets you 'in the zone' and is great practice for larger work.

Now all I need do is remember what I learned, every time I assemble a collage.

  2. I am always in awe of people who can do collage. I just can't get the feel for it. Great work.

  3. great pieces. I love working small - it's translating it to a large piece that eludes me.

  4. Working small can be equally challenging as working really large...
    you manage both beautifully Jo.
I am sure you will incorporate some of what you're learning into what you already do so brilliantly...
it's little steps don't you think...
    These collages are each fab!

  5. Wow- love these sketches! I agree that collage sketches are important, and have just started doing more of them myself. Your compositions are very strong; I think numbers 2 and 3 are especially engaging!

  6. Holy moly - these are "sketches"??!!! They are great! As always, I love your eye for composition and for combining unusual elements together. #1 and #3 are my faves. I've never thought of collage sketches....the concept is interesting but I'm not sure how it would work for me.....guess it's to get you in the mode of working with paper and shapes and color so that when inspiration strikes, you're in the groove. Thanks for sharing your workshop efforts - looks like one for me to add to my wish list.

  8. Oh Jo, these are LOVELY. Simply divine. I truly wish I could make collages that are as well balanced and freeing as yours. Not sure I understand the concept behind collage sketches because these could stand on their own. Your art ALWAYS inspires me!
