RUSTIFICATION

On March 1st I posted about the 'rust'  trend in art-making. I featured the work of other artists and my first rust-dyeing efforts.  Now 'Paper Traders' is having a 'rust' challenge.  I LOVE a challenge and have used some rusty, and rust-dyed, bits to produce a mixed media painting.

RUST IS THE NEW BLACK
The painting is 30 x 30 cm on gallery-wrapped, wide edge, canvas.  I'm saving it for an exhibition as it is one of the few works that I'm actually quite satisfied with.  Perhaps that is because it is sooooo out of my usual comfort zone.

  1. Totally gorgeous! I've been collecting a few rusty pieces to try my hand at rusty dying, but only have a couple of little things at the moment. I did take some great photos of rust and rusty things on my most recent trip and am contemplating how to incorporate them into my artwork. Think I might try my hand at image transfer and see how that goes.... It looks like your metal pieces were wired to the canvas? I just love it and am totally inspired to go make one of my own.

  4. Jo, you SHOULD be quite satisfied with this canvas! It's absolutely amazing! I love your colors and the runs of black against the lighter background. That looks incredible! I also love your rust and metallic pieces and how you've incorporated them into your canvas. Very very cool design! Thanks for sharing with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
