YAY !!! A surprise prize.

Thursday night was the opening and prizes announcement for the 'Lions For Leukaemia' art awards exhibition. I enter every year, and almost every category, because it is such a good cause.  Usually I achieve a few non-monetary awards, Highly Commendeds, Seconds, or Thirds. BUT, this year I hit the Jackpot.

Blue Squares - acrylics on canvas, 45 x 45 cm

This unpretentious little painting won me the Abstract First Prize of $800.  Yippee... I'm absolutely over the moon.  It has been one of my favourite recent pieces.

....and there's more..... I also won the Miniature First Prize ($150)  with this one....

Loops - mixed media
Looks like my transition to abstract is the right direction for me.

What do you think?

  8. Hooray! Good for you - it's well deserved! These are both such excellent pieces....that bigger one has so much interest, texture, little nuggets of delight tucked here and there and then sparked by that bright blue - love it! It's cool that you won in two totally different arenas.....miniatures are a whole different dynamic than a bigger piece. I'm sending you a big virtual hug! :)

  23. Hello hello Jo - I actually came onto your blog to tell you how much I loved your entry in the COMA zodiac series and here I found these two exciting paintings of yours which have won prizes in their categories. I am not surprised as they are both marvellous. I am not familiar with your work but I adore the abstract image so would applaud your decision to keeping painting in that genre. Congratulations. Please excuse the double hello but the blog gremlins won't let me delete one of them!
